Following the success of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership (VATL) building at St Andrews Place, arete Australia was awarded a $6 million contract to design and construct the new VATL Geelong facility.

As part of Victoria’s broader rollout of teaching academies, the Geelong facility marked a significant milestone, being the first and largest regional training academy developed. Located at 5a Little Ryrie Street, the project involved the transformation of a long-vacant Department of Education and Training building, originally a converted police station.

The scope of work included a complete refurbishment, stripping the building down to its core structure. The arete team oversaw extensive demolition, followed by the reconstruction of essential elements such as the car park, external courtyard, and landscaping. The project also featured new roofing, a full internal fitout, upgraded services, façade enhancements, a feature staircase, lift installation, and high-quality finishes to align with the Academy’s design vision.

This project reflects arete Australia’s commitment to delivering exceptional education facilities across Victoria.
