arete Australia is proud to announce the successful completion of the University of Melbourne’s Department of Optometry and Visual Sciences redevelopment, reaching Practical Completion. The $19 million Design and Construct project was delivered in close collaboration with the University of Melbourne, Aurecon, and a talented team of consultants including Hassell Studio, ADP Consulting, Arup Group, and PLP Building Surveyors.
Despite facing several challenges throughout the project, the arete team successfully overcame each one, including the complex task of reinforcing the existing building façade with a custom designed structural steel skeleton to meet modern standards. This behind-the-scenes work ensures the facility's strength and durability for years to come.
The result is a stunning transformation, 4,600 square meters of state-of-the-art optometry, physiotherapy, teaching, and office spaces that now stand ready to support cutting-edge research and learning at the University of Melbourne.
