arete Australia is thrilled to announce the successful completion of our project at the ACMI (Australian Centre for the Moving Image) Museum, one of the world’s leading institutions for screen culture. Located in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD, ACMI is the most visited museum of its kind globally, offering visitors an immersive experience in the worlds of film, TV, art, and video games—open 364 days a year.
The ACMI redevelopment involved a comprehensive upgrade across three key layers of work:
- Primary Works (Main Works): This included essential construction upgrades to ACMI's base building infrastructure, ensuring its long-term operation. These foundational improvements enhance the entire museum and its public spaces, providing the necessary support for future exhibitions and programs.
- Specialised Design & Construction: Our team employed a design-and-construct approach for specialised elements, which included the fabrication and installation of exhibition joinery, metalwork, and bespoke display structures. Key components of the fitout included shopfitting, showcases, plinths, and lighting/multimedia support systems, all meticulously crafted to meet ACMI's high standards.
- Seamless Integration: Electrical and data integration was woven into the joinery and metalwork elements, with site management ensuring close coordination with other contractors. Extra care was taken to protect existing finishes, ensuring the museum remained in pristine condition.
This ambitious project reflects our commitment to delivering innovative and high-quality construction solutions. arete is proud to have played a part in bringing ACMI’s world-class exhibitions to life and look forward to seeing visitors explore the newly upgraded space.
