arete have been appointed as head contractor for the Royal Melbourne Hospital PET Expansion project,  a 500m2 internal fit out for the Hospitals Nuclear Medicine Department. This department has seen rapid growth in recent years and has identified the need to expand their PET/CT services to cater for their immediate patients and the wider community.

PET is used routinely for the staging, treatment selection, and planning and therapeutic response assessment for many cancer types; however, PET/CT is also expected to have an increasing role in clinical cardiology and other systemic diseases.

The project will see new PET/CT services being constructed in an existing cold shell and will deliver the following functional spaces.  The new facility will include:

  • General Administration – reception area, waiting area, staff area, general offices, waste room, medical store room
  • 4No Patient Uptake Rooms (shielded)
  • 1No Hot Lab (shielded)
  • 1No PET/CT Scan Room (shielded)
  • 1No Equipment Room
  • 1No Control Room
  • Discharge Waiting Area (shielded)
  • Patient W/C (shielded)
  • Public W/C

While boasting the above there is also major services installations to be completed within the shell space including a new AHU and air filtration system and medical gasses.
